If so, then Buckinghamshire Council has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Historic Environment Record Officer to join our expanding Heritage and Archaeology Team within the Planning and Environment service.
The post has arisen to facilitate a short-term project and is offered as a 1-year fixed-term contract and on a part-time 15 hours per week (0.4 FTE) basis. The salary shown will be pro-rated.

About us
The Heritage and Archaeology Team is a busy, professional and friendly team made up of qualified Heritage Officers and Archaeologists working to protect, promote and manage the unique historic environment of Buckinghamshire. As part of the Council’s Planning, Growth and Sustainability Directorate and the Planning and Environment Service, the Heritage and Archaeology Team sits alongside other specialist teams, including ecology and arboriculture and works collaboratively across the organisation.
This is an exciting time to join Buckinghamshire Council. The county is currently experiencing a huge amount of growth and an increase in planning-related casework. Working with us will give you the opportunity to help maintain a comprehensive and progressive Historic Environment Record and service which underpins potential future development and provides an academic and community resource. Partnership work is key to the success of our work and the successful applicants will work with some of the key heritage stakeholders in the region, especially Historic England, the Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust and local societies.
About the role
As a member of the Heritage and Archaeology Team you will help to update and maintain the quality of the information held within the Historic Environment Record (HER) for Buckinghamshire.
You will respond in a timely fashion to search and information requests from a variety of users both within the organisation and on behalf of our external customers. Your work will involve updating Portable Antiquity Scheme records and processing countryside stewardship applications. You will support the Historic Environment Records Officer and Assistant Officer to complete a national to local record enhancement project and contribute to reporting back to the funding provider for the project on a regular basis. You will support the wider Heritage and Archaeology team through contributing to Conservation Area appraisals, Local Heritage Listing, community and partnership outreach work and other relevant projects.
You will report to the Heritage and Archaeology Team Leader and will have the opportunity to engage with activities led by other members of the wider Environmental Specialist Teams, the Buckinghamshire Archives and Museums Services.

About you
The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of archaeological practice and historic environment record keeping.
Knowledge of legislation, policy and guidance relating to the historic environment.
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
You will be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a course related to the historic environment.
Excellent organisational skills.
