Overview

Buckinghamshire Council is looking to consolidate its position as the building control provider of choice in Buckinghamshire.

As such, we aim to recruit an additional Senior Registered Building Inspector to join our strong team of Class 2 and Class 3 RBIs.

The Grade 8 role on offer attracts a salary to £51,758 plus a market supplement of £5,000/pa.

About the role

This full-time role has a mobile work profile. This means that you will be able to work from a variety of locations in order to fulfil your duties, including remote and home working and with access to the Council’s permanent office bases.

Our Inspectors are involved with a vast range of projects across the county and we provide support to the Building Safety Regulator through engagement in a number of their multi-disciplinary teams (MDT).

As a member of the team you will lead on a range of applications, support clients and colleagues and be a fundamental part of advising the council on fulfilment of the building control functions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with a range of duty holders to support them through the building control process
  • Carrying out building control restricted activities –
    • checking plans for approval
    • site inspections to assess the compliance of building work
  • Investigating and reviewing unauthorised building works
  • Promoting the building control services of Buckinghamshire Council
  • Liaising with building control peers and colleagues from the wider council services on building control matters

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

You will be:

  • registered with the Building Safety Regulator at a minimum of Class 2 A-F and be able to carry out unsupervised the restricted activities;
  • experienced in the delivery of building control with in-depth working knowledge of the Building Act 1984, The Building Regulations 2010 and associated legislation;
  • self-motivated with excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage a diverse caseload;
  • able to work as part of a team and have outstanding communication skills with a focus on customer service;
  • ideally a member of a professional body (CABE, CIOB, RICS);
  • committed to continuous improvement, professional development and be able to demonstrate the ethics and behaviours outlined in the RBI Code of Conduct
