Senior Business Intelligence Analyst
Location: Aylesbury
Overview
Are you a data enthusiast with a knack for turning complex information into actionable insights? We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to join our team on a fixed term basis and drive evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement in service delivery, value for money, and customer satisfaction.
Contract: Secondment/fixed term contract until September 2026
About us
The BI team is a highly collaborative function, providing excellent opportunities to develop your skills across a range of analytical disciplines and service areas. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality business intelligence and insights from various sources. We work collaboratively across departments, including operational teams, IT, finance and customer service, to ensure that our organisation makes informed decisions and plans effectively for the future. We value a culture of continuous learning, development, and innovation.
This post sits within the part of the BI team supporting Childrens Services, and will be supporting an important cross council project aimed at improving services for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN).
About the role
As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, you will be responsible for developing specialist business intelligence and insights. You will research, manage, and evaluate complex data, identify organisational issues and trends, and support decision-making processes. Your role will involve producing comprehensive reports, mentoring team members, managing projects, and building strong relationships with stakeholders. You will also contribute to the development of innovative solutions to service requirements and shortfalls.
As part of your role, you will contribute to the development of others. This could be through sharing technical and procedural knowledge, skills, and experience, acting as a coach or mentor, or providing feedback.
Key tasks include the provision of performance information and insight for education services, such as regular performance reporting on SEN placements and costs, as well as providing intelligence that will allow the service to plan for future changes in demand. The postholder will also be involved with supporting statutory returns across the SEN service, including raising awareness of data quality issues and supporting the development of recording processes to allow for more automated reporting.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
You are an experienced data analyst with a strong background in data management and analysis. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and you can explain technical information to non-specialists. You will need to be confident working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions to complex problems. You will be working regularly with colleagues at Corporate and Service Director level as well as a range of colleagues from across BI, Children’s Services, Finance and Service Improvement.
You are highly organised, able to prioritise workloads, and have a proven ability to work under pressure. You are also knowledgeable about relevant policies, work practices, and legislation, including the Data Protection Act (2018).
You are proficient in using Microsoft applications and have advanced Excel skills. You will also have experience of developing and delivering automated reporting in Power BI.
Knowledge of the specialist systems used within the service and for reporting (Capita ONE, Crystal Reporting, SQL) would be an advantage.
Please refer to the job summary attached for full details about the role.
