About the role
This role requires a proactive and community-focused individual to manage the day-to-day operations of the community café.
The role involves ensuring excellent customer service and high operational standards, while developing the café as a vibrant and inclusive space for the local community. A key focus will be to create meaningful work experience and training opportunities in hospitality and catering for young people, particularly those with additional needs.
The successful candidate will also take a lead on sales and marketing initiatives to increase footfall, raise the café's profile, and enhance community engagement.
The post holder will line manage the Deputy Café Manager and provide leadership and support to the wider café team.

About you
We are seeking an experienced candidate having worked in leadership role as part of a community café.
The role will include the following responsibilities:
• Oversee the daily operations of the café, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all customers and students.
• Work alongside students, providing tailored support, supervision and training in catering and hospitality skills.
• Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote the café and increase footfall from the local community.
• Monitor stock, manage budgets and order supplies efficiently.
• Maintain records of daily, weekly, monthly revenues and expenses to include visitor numbers
• Keep financial records, ensuring the taking of cash, recording of sales and till reconciliation is carried out to a high standard
• Ensure compliance with hygiene, allergen and health and safety legislation and maintain our 5* Environmental Health status and a safe and secure working environment
• Train and supervise staff and lead by example to motivate, train and inspire the café team
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Foster positive working relationships with students, teaching assistants, and the community.
• Provide regular feedback to students on their progress and achievements.
• Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students, setting high expectations to encourage self-esteem and independence.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
Skills & Knowledge
• Strong understanding of food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen regulations.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and external visitors.
• Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies.
• IT skills, including use of email, spreadsheets, and point-of-sale systems.

Desirable Experience
• Experience of managing a café, restaurant, or similar hospitality setting.
• Experience of working with young people, ideally those with SEND, in a supportive or training capacity.
• Experience of leading a team and line managing staff.
• Experience in sales and marketing, particularly within a community setting.
Qualifications
• Relevant qualification in hospitality, catering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
• Evidence of recent professional development relevant to the role.
