Commissioning Support Officer - Children and Young People’s Community and Prevention Team

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about improving outcomes for local communities? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement are valued? Buckinghamshire Council is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Commissioning Support Officer to join the Children and Young People’s Community and Prevention Team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that shape services for Buckinghamshire residents. You’ll be part of a supportive team working across the commissioning cycle, helping to deliver high-quality services that make a real difference.

Our new Commissioning and Procurement Hub brings together strategic commissioners with operational commissioning, including Quality and Placements, and procurement colleagues. By combining our skills, experiences and lessons learned, we ensure the most effective approach to supporting all stages of the commissioning cycle, complementing other Council teams to maximise the quality and value for money for our residents.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As a Commissioning Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the strategic commissioning lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of commissioning projects, maintaining workplans and coordinating activities.
  • Managing the day to day running of spot purchase of therapy provision for Buckinghamshire children and young people including processing referrals, sourcing provision, liaising with providers and processing invoices.
  • Supporting strategic needs assessments through data collation and formatting.
  • Organising co-production and market engagement events.
  • Developing tender documentation and supporting evaluation processes.
  • Providing financial support including budget oversight, invoicing, and cross-charging.
  • Facilitating contract monitoring through meeting administration, data collation, and action tracking.
  • Acting as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, resolving queries and supporting service delivery.
  • Promoting a culture of shared learning and innovation through evidence-based research.

You’ll be working on short, medium, and long-term projects, from organising meetings and processing invoices to supporting major recommissioning initiatives.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Organised and detail-oriented, with strong planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Collaborative, able to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Financially aware, with experience in financial processes and budget monitoring.
  • A problem-solver, with analytical skills and the initiative to work independently.
  • Professional and trustworthy, with a commitment to high standards and continuous improvement.
  • Educated to A level/NVQ3/HNC standard or equivalent.
