Senior Admissions Officer

Overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a part time Senior Admissions Officer at Buckinghamshire Council.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing the delivery of the school admissions processes within Buckinghamshire including the administration of the Secondary Transfer Test. The successful candidate will need to manage processes concurrently to fixed deadlines and be an excellent communicator as you will be responsible for accurate communication with the team of admissions officers, schools, parents, other officers of the council and admissions colleagues in other local authorities. The role is one of three Senior Admissions Officers in the secondary admissions team and you will be responsible for supporting the team leader in coordinating the work of the team.

About the role

The key responsibilities for this exciting opportunity include:

  • Provide statistics for use in school planning cycles
  • Supporting schools in making their case at over subscription appeals, to include liaison with headteachers and their representatives over appeal case preparation
  • Contributing to ensuring the integrity of the Transfer Testing Process
  • Contributing to the development of admission strategies
  • Contributing to the development of information for parents and headteachers, including the use of web pages, online forms, social media networks and other digital solutions
  • Ensuring the integrity of the admissions database in compliance with corporate and GDPR requirement
  • Correspondence management (including preparing responses to complaints and MP enquiries)
  • Providing budget support to the budget holder
  • Developing annual team objectives in agreement with line manager
  • Contributing to and delivering business continuity plans. Ensure a continuous service is provided and any business threatening situations are escalated
  • Being responsible for matters relating to health and safety
  • To take a lead role in maintaining the admissions information held on the Council’s website
  • To provide advice to admission appeal consultants, and appeal panel members
  • To identify recommend and support the development of business, service and action plans.

About you

To excel in this role you will need:

  • An understanding of the Buckinghamshire education environment and national admissions legislation is essential.
  • The ability to gather information from a variety of sources and accurately collate and disseminate
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate staff
  • Ability to set standards, performance indicators, quality measures for the service
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with proven ability to prioritise own and others workloads, monitor and evaluate work and ensure deadlines are achieved
  • The ability to accurately manage an admissions process by using technology effectively and efficiently.
  • To be educated to Degree level or extensive experience and specialist knowledge in this field.
