About the role

As Risk Lead Officer, you will support the Risk and Assurance Manager in delivering the Council’s Risk Management Plan and embedding a robust risk framework.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure a consistent approach to risk management across all directorates.
  • Oversee and maintain risk registers, ensuring effective escalation and follow-up of actions.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance, and training on risk management processes.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for emerging risks and assess their impact on the Council.
  • Review and challenge directorate risk registers and undertake control environment reviews.
  • Monitor compliance with risk policies and procedures.
  • Administer the Council’s corporate risk management system and develop reporting tools.
  • Collaborate with Insurance colleagues on insurable risks.
  • Represent or deputise for the Risk and Assurance Manager at meetings as required.

 

This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can work collaboratively, demonstrate sound judgement, and uphold the highest standards of risk management.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

  • Deal with people at all levels confidently, sensitively and diplomatically.
  • Develop good working relationships and communicate effectively with internal / external bodies / organisations / partners and stakeholders. Represent specialist area internally and / or externally, maintaining or enhancing the specialist work area’s reputation. Support partnership working as required, ensuring stakeholders are engaged with activity relevant to them.
  • Deliver a specialist service and support initiatives, projects and improvement programmes within the service area.
  • Awareness of wider sector / external influences.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, persuasion and negotiation skills to build relationships and influence the stakeholder community.
  • Proven ability to explain technical / specialist information in a way which a non-specialist can understand.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflicting and changing demands through good time management and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with proven ability to prioritise and coordinate workloads, monitor and evaluate work, to ensure deadlines are achieved.
  • Excellent ICT skills including Microsoft applications and specialist systems.

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you will be required work from the office at least two days a week depending on role requirements. The team’s normal offices is Walton Street although you may be required to attend other offices depending on role requirements.
