About the role

As Senior Pensions Officer, you will play a key role in delivering a high-performing HR Pensions service for the Council and its external customers. You will:

  • Support the HR Pensions Lead and deputise on key projects and supervisory tasks.
  • Provide line management to Pensions Administrators, fostering a culture of performance and development.
  • Deliver expert technical pensions advice to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with all relevant legislation and policy.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of the Local Government, Teachers, and NHS Pension Schemes, ensuring accurate records and correct scheme implementation.
  • Prepare and complete monthly and annual contribution returns, and respond to queries regarding service, pensionable pay, and contributions.
  • Oversee the completion of Local Government Pensions employee leaving forms and pay calculations for departing employees.
  • Compile and distribute regular reporting requirements for Local Government, Teachers, and NHS Pensions, including new entrants and employment changes.
  • Produce, verify, and distribute monthly contribution payments by required deadlines.
  • Champion the analysis and investigation of anomalies in contribution returns, escalating issues as needed.
  • Lead on reviewing queries and issues that come into the HR Pensions service.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

  • You will have significant experience in local government pension scheme administration including LGPS, Teacher and NHS pension schemes on SAP
  • You will have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • You will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines
  • Previous line management experience is preferable

Other information

Working arrangements: Currently operating on a hybrid work arrangement with requirement to be in the office 2 days a week. This includes a mandatory team day and a second day of choice.
