Overview

We are currently recruiting for an LGV & HGV Service Mechanic to work in our new modern specialist workshop. This is a key role maintaining our fleet of Refuse Vehicles, Road Sweepers and Vans for Buckinghamshire Council on Pembroke Road in Aylesbury.

You will be working for the Neighbourhood Services department and the Workshop is a key part in keeping our frontline vehicles operational so we can provide the operations department with the vehicles required to manage the waste throughout Buckinghamshire. 

We have a team of Engineers who maintain our vehicles on a shift pattern splitting work between Servicing and Repairs to our LGV’s, HGV’s and Vans. Also the team carry out MOT testing on light vehicles. We have a new workshop with modern equipment to aid the drive we have to maintain our vehicles to the highest standard.

About the role

This is a new exciting role as the fleet variation covers LGV Refuse Vehicles, Light Commercial vehicles through to our Van’s, Tractors and Mowers. This can produce challenges as every vehicle is equally as important and a key asset in to keeping waste and recycling moving in Buckinghamshire.

We are expanding our workshop capabilities as we look after more vehicles and become self sufficient in regards to servicing and repairs across our fleet. This role is a new position, you will be working in a team with 4 Mechanics covering a early/late shift rotation.

About you

  • We are looking for a highly motivated Engineer with Level 3 NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications in Heavy Vehicle/Light Vehicle who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Someone who has experience in working on LGV to DVSA standards and has a eye for raising standards and quality
  • Someone who can maintain excellent Health & Safety practices within a busy workshop environment
  • Be familiar with using diagnostic tools to interrogate and understand Management faults on vehicles to enable rectification
  • A good knowledge of the DVSA requirements regarding vehicle inspections/Maintenance is essential
  • Experience with working on light vehicles and refuse vehicles would be an advantage but training can be provided.
  • Be able to work towards achieving a light Vehicle MOT testing qualification.
  • Be able to work towards achieving a LGV Licence.
