Overview

Buckinghamshire Council is seeking a highly skilled and creative Graphic Designer to join our Communications Team. This key role offers the opportunity to shape the Council’s visual identity and deliver impactful design solutions that engage and inform a diverse range of audiences. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in graphic design, who demonstrates both innovation and attention to detail.

This is a secondment/ fixed term contract for up to 6 months (with the potential to extend to a year).

About the role

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Graphic Design Lead in embedding and maintaining the Council’s visual brand identity across all communications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality visual content, including graphics, video creation/editing, and animation for a variety of channels and audiences.
  • Provide training and guidance to colleagues on image sharing, storage, and print ordering systems.
  • Deliver a comprehensive design service, ensuring all outputs meet the Council’s standards and deadlines.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to special projects that enhance the Council’s profile and support strategic objectives.
  • Awareness of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in design and
    communications.

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

We are seeking a skilled and creative Graphic Designer with a strong portfolio showcasing high-quality work across print and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Premiere Pro and passionate about creating visual content that really connects with people.

You’ll understand how to use brand guidelines and able to develop fresh identities for campaigns and partnerships.

Organisation is key: you’ll be able to manage multiple projects under pressure, and thrive in a collaborative environment, working with colleagues at all levels. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and openness to feedback are essential. A commitment to continuous learning and keen to keep up with the latest design trends.

Most importantly, you take pride in producing work that looks great and makes an impact.

Interview date: To be confirmed

Interview-type / process: In person interview. Candidates to submit a portfolio of work if selected for interview. Interview will include a 5–10-minute presentation of a set design task. A design brief will be set before the interview, followed by questions, closing with 15 minutes of discussion to discuss two pieces of work from their portfolio they are proud of.
