About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
About the role

- Researching historical evidence and interpreting legislation to maintain the Definitive Map and Statement.
- Preparing detailed reports and presenting cases to committees and public inquiries.
- Advising stakeholders and representing the Council in formal hearings.
- Supporting major infrastructure projects and ensuring public rights of way are protected.
At Grade 6, you’ll take on more complex cases, lead investigations, and act as an expert witness at public inquiries, as well as prioritising workloads to meet strategic objectives.
About you
We’re looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong communication skills. You’ll need:
- Knowledge & Experience: A solid understanding of Public Rights of Way legislation, including the Highways Act 1980 and Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Experience in Definitive Map investigations is essential.
- Skills: Excellent research, analytical, and report-writing skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly. Strong organisational skills to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
- Qualifications: Educated to NVQ 3/HNC level (Grade 5) or NVQ 4/Degree level (Grade 6), with a full driving license.
- Personal Attributes: Proud, ambitious, collaborative, and trustworthy – you’ll uphold the Council’s values and deliver high standards every day.
