Overview

We’re looking to recruit an enthusiastic and personable individual to join our team of Crematoria Technicians.  Working across Chilterns and Bierton Crematoria, on a rota basis, you’ll be making sure that every customer receives the highest standard of service at an emotionally charged time.

This is a varied and rewarding role working within our crematoria chapels and operating the cremators and associated equipment providing a dignified and professional cremation service.

This is not your everyday job, working closely with Funeral Directors and officiants you’ll be providing an essential service to bereaved members of our communities to make their funeral experience the best it can be.

About the role

As a Crematoria Technician, you’ll work as part of a dedicated and friendly team, to provide a high-quality service that is responsive to our customer needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking a range of activities across the crematory, chapels and buildings, including the specialist operation of the cremators ensuring that cremations are completed in accordance with legal and service standards.
  • Preparing the crematoria chapels for services, operating the chapel media systems, and other electronic equipment, ensuring that the correct music, visual tributes and webcasts are provided for each cremation service.
  • Responding empathetically to the needs of mourners, assisting with funeral parties entering and leaving the chapels and respond to customer queries to resolve issues.
  • Undertaking daily and routine maintenance of the cremators, and associated equipment, and assisting with health and safety maintenance checks to ensure the safety of mourners and other visitors to the site.

This varied role means you’ll work at both Chilterns and Bierton Crematoria, on a rota basis. We will supply uniform, PPE and training to ensure that you are equipped to provide a service to be proud of.

About you

  • You hold, or are willing to obtain, a recognised certificate of competence in the operation and maintenance of cremation and ancillary equipment.
  • You are customer‑focused with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You demonstrate good planning and organisational abilities to ensure cremations and chapel services run smoothly and to schedule.
  • You have solid IT skills and can accurately operate chapel media systems in line with customer requirements.
  • You have experience in the safe operation, maintenance and security of specialised equipment, ideally relevant to this role.
  • You possess good literacy and numeracy skills and can maintain accurate records and produce clear reports.
  • You have knowledge of the cremation industry and its statutory requirements.
  • You are willing to share your skills and support the development of others through coaching or mentoring.

This role is site based, working at both Chilterns Crematorium, Amersham, and Bierton Crematorium, Aylesbury as part of a team of Crematoria Technicians.  It is offered on a full-time basis, 37 hours per week, early/late and weekend working on a rota basis.
