Self-Neglect/Hoarding Co-Ordinator

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about safeguarding vulnerable adults? Do you thrive in collaborative, fast‑paced environments where your expertise truly shapes practice? We’re looking for an exceptional Self‑Neglect & Hoarding Co‑ordinator to lead an innovative new approach to supporting adults experiencing self‑neglect and hoarding across Buckinghamshire.

This is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of a brand‑new self‑neglect pathway within the Adult Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). You’ll be the driving force behind bringing partners together, embedding best practice, and ensuring that some of the most vulnerable members of our community receive timely, coordinated and compassionate support.

Contract: This is a 6 month fixed term contract/secondment opportunity.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As our Self‑Neglect & Hoarding Co‑ordinator, you’ll lead the launch, implementation, and ongoing improvement of our new self‑neglect/hoarding referral pathway. This is a role where no two days are the same, you’ll be balancing expert case guidance with strategic development and partnership collaboration.

You will:

  • Drive the roll‑out of the new pathway, working closely with partners from across social care, health, housing, and community organisations.
  • Coordinate the full referral and triage process, ensuring cases are assessed and progressed in line with agreed protocols and best practice.
  • Champion multi‑agency working, facilitating and at times chairing meetings to support shared decision‑making and effective case planning.
  • Provide specialist advice on high‑risk or complex cases, supporting practitioners across the system on self‑neglect and hoarding concerns.
  • Deliver training and build professional confidence, helping raise awareness and embed consistent standards across partner agencies.
  • Monitor and review pathway effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement and producing outcome reports for senior leaders.
  • Create resources and communications that raise awareness of self‑neglect, support available, and how agencies can respond effectively.
  • Play an active role in shaping local safeguarding policy and influencing how services respond to individuals most at risk.

This role is central to strengthening local safeguarding arrangements and ensuring adults receive coordinated, respectful, and empowering support.

Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

You’ll bring both the professional expertise and the personal qualities needed to lead confidently within a complex, multi‑agency safeguarding environment.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Significant experience working in adult safeguarding, social work, or a closely related field, including managing complex cases.
  • Strong understanding of self‑neglect, hoarding, risk assessment, and multi‑agency processes.
  • Expert knowledge of key legislation such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across health, social care, housing, and voluntary sector partners.
  • Experience chairing multi‑agency meetings and leading professional discussions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organisational and workload management abilities, particularly when balancing competing priorities.
  • High‑quality record‑keeping and report‑writing skills.
  • Confident use of Microsoft applications and LAS case management systems.
  • A recognised professional social work qualification.

Please refer to the job summary attached for full details about the role.
