Community Board Manager
Location: Aylesbury
Overview
We’re looking for a community‑focused Community Board Manager to drive local engagement, strengthen community partnerships, and support Buckinghamshire Council’s commitment to empowering residents. This role is ideal for someone passionate about collaborative working, local issues, and making a meaningful impact across diverse communities.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
Buckinghamshire Council is dedicated to putting local communities at the heart of everything we do. Through our Community Boards, we bring residents, councillors, partners and organisations together to identify priorities, shape local services and solve the issues that matter most. Our approach promotes strong local relationships, shared problem‑solving and innovative solutions that improve outcomes for all.
About the role
As a Community Board Manager, you will lead the Council’s locality and partnership work within a defined geographic area. Acting as a connector between local communities and the Council, you’ll enable meaningful engagement, drive forward action plans, and ensure our Community Boards are well‑supported and effective.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with councillors, partners, residents and community groups to address local issues and influence service design.
- Lead Community Board governance, including formal meetings, action plans, reports and budget oversight.
- Facilitate collaborative working across communities and partners to identify priorities and deliver local solutions.
- Develop and deliver targeted communication and engagement plans to ensure residents can shape local services.
- Provide specialist advice, respond to complex stakeholder issues, and use local insight to anticipate concerns.
- Plan and deliver local events, including engagement activity
Mobile:
A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.
About you
Knowledge and understanding of the Aylesbury area including its local needs, issues, and networks would be an advantage, but not essential.
You’ll have an exceptional ability to build positive working relationships across formal and informal networks, excellent customer service skills (with experience of resolving escalated enquires) and the ability to deal with people at all levels confidently, sensitively, and diplomatically. You’ll be experienced in working directly with and supporting elected members, and it would be an advantage to have strong political awareness.
You’ll be able to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team and will be supported by the Partnerships & Communities Service Manager and wider team to address complex issues. You will work together with the wider team to deliver solutions that enhance the quality and efficiency of services and the reputation of the Council. You’ll be resilient, positive and solution focussed, escalating issues early as needed.
