About the role

As a Safety Inspector, you will lead and support the delivery of highway safety inspections, ensuring compliance with statutory and local policy requirements. This is a varied, mobile role carried out in all weather conditions, with autonomy to manage your workload and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out highway safety inspections in line with policies and required timescales.
  • Ensure compliance with the Highways Safety Inspection Policy and highlight issues or improvements.
  • Raise accurate works orders aligned to specifications and CDM requirements.
  • Support Fix My Street and customer enquiries with timely, professional responses.
  • Work collaboratively with Area Inspectors, Highways Leads, Members, and local partners.
  • Contribute to updates of inspection processes and procedures.
  • Lead small local projects or improvement initiatives.
  • Complete post‑works audits to assess quality and compliance.
  • Support incident and emergency responses when needed.
  • Capture and report inspection data to support business planning and investment decisions.
  • Promote safe working practices and escalate risks appropriately.

About you

We’re looking for a confident and proactive new starter that wants to grow with our service and develop their career in the Highways service. A quick learner with a keen eye for assisting our teams improving the lives of Buckinghamshire residents through completion of our Highway Safety Inspection Policy.

You should have the ability to work collaboratively, have a keen ethic for enhancing your skills and working as a team to manage issues on the Highway network. As well as represent the service with credibility in defending the Council under our duties of the Highways Act 1980. If you’re motivated, solutions‑focused, and ready to make a tangible difference to Buckinghamshire’s highway network, and, are keen for a new challenge we would love to hear from you.

About the Business Unit

Our Communities directorate works across the county to deliver a number of the key customer-facing services that our residents, businesses and visitors rely on every day.
