Learning Support Assistant
Location:
Overview
Are you passionate about helping adults grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve their goals? Join Buckinghamshire Adult Learning as a Learning Support Assistant, where you’ll play a vital role in empowering adult learners to fully participate in their learning journey.
If you love supporting others, enjoy working in a team and want to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.
About us
Buckinghamshire Adult Learning mission is to provide inclusive learning opportunities that promote well-being and inspire people living or working in Buckinghamshire to achieve their potential.
The service is principally funded by Government grant, and we are subject to inspection by OFSTED.
About the role
As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will provide tailored support to individual learners or small groups who need additional help to succeed in their studies. Working closely with class tutors, you will help prepare and adapt learning activities, encourage active engagement, and ensure every learner feels included, confident and supported throughout their programme.
We are seeking LSAs to support across a range of provision areas, including:
- Family Learning – working with parents and children
- ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
- Adults with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities
- Community Engagement courses
- Skills maths and English courses
In this role, you will:
- Support learners during Adult Learning sessions across a range of subjects.
- Help adapt learning materials and interpret tasks to suit learner needs.
- Assist with maintaining learner records and support plans.
- Work collaboratively with tutors to plan for upcoming lessons and understand learner requirements.
- Promote safeguarding and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality.
- Contribute to the smooth running of sessions, helping manage resources and equipment.
This is a casual role based in various Adult Learning Centres and some community venues across the county, with the expectation to work a minimum of two 2‑hour classes per week, which could be mornings, afternoon or evenings.
About you
You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy working with people, communicate clearly and calmly, and are motivated by seeing others succeed. Building positive relationships comes naturally to you, and you’re someone who can quickly adapt your approach depending on the needs of each learner.
You should feel comfortable using ICT in a classroom setting and be able to stay organised even during busy sessions. Flexibility is important, as is a genuine commitment to supporting adults who may face communication or learning barriers. You don’t need a specific qualification to apply, but experience in a learning environment, or supporting someone with additional needs, would be helpful. A good standard of spoken English (Level 2) is essential, and qualifications in English, maths, vocational subjects or creative areas are welcomed.
Most importantly, you believe in the potential of every learner — and you’re keen to help them reach it.
