Council Tax Team Leader

Overview
Are you ready to lead a dynamic team and make a real difference in your community? We’re looking for a motivated and experienced Council Tax Team Leader to join our Revenues and Benefits service area. In this pivotal role, you’ll manage a dedicated team responsible for the administration of Council Tax, ensuring high-quality service delivery and supporting the Council’s vision and values.
About us
Situated within the Resources Directorate, the Revenues and Benefits service plays a critical role in supporting residents and the wider community.
The Buckinghamshire Council Tax team are responsible for over 239,000 properties, collecting over £400m, both of which will continue to increase in future years. We have approximately 20 team members including temps. We deal with all aspects of council tax – moves, discounts/exemptions, non-payment before summons, and customer queries. We are a friendly and supportive team and work flexibly between our office sites and home.
About the role
As the Council Tax Team Leader, you will:
- Provide leadership and operational management for the Council Tax Team.
- Be accountable for team performance and the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services.
- Support the Council Tax Manager in resource planning and strategic development.
- Act as a technical and procedural advisor, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
- Respond to enquiries and complaints from a range of stakeholders, including the public, elected members, and external bodies.
- Drive change and continuous improvement, helping to deliver a cost-effective and efficient council tax service.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic person who is positive and has a “can-do” attitude. You must have:
- Excellent communication skills
- Good attention to detail
- Detailed council tax knowledge and experience in council tax processing
- Good planning and organisation skills
- Good time management and be able to work under pressure at times
