Business Intelligence Analyst (Permanent)

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you someone who loves uncovering insights, telling the story behind the numbers, and helping organisations make smarter decisions? Join our Business Intelligence (BI) team as a Business Intelligence Analyst, where your work will directly support better planning, improved services, and meaningful outcomes for our customers.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys variety, loves analysing data, and is keen to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As part of our Business Intelligence function, you’ll play a key role in supporting the development of high-quality business intelligence and insight from internal, external, and partner sources. You will support evidence-based decision making and forward planning, which will drive continuous and sustained improvements in service delivery, value for money, and customer satisfaction.

You will be part of the Adults and Health BI team, primarily delivering analysis and insight for the Community Safety Partnership in Buckinghamshire, but also working on other projects across the Council, especially within the Adults & Health directorate. You will work closely with partners including the police, health, and the fire service.

A few key responsibilities include:

  • Researching, processing, and evaluating information and data to support business requirements.
  • Analysing trends and identifying issues to draw out conclusions and recommendations to support decision making.
  • Working with stakeholders to clarify needs and propose solutions.
  • Supporting the delivery of corporate performance reporting, including quality assurance, process improvement, and efficient data capture.

Please note, Thames Valley Police vetting is likely to be required to access police data which is required for the role.

About you

You’re naturally curious, analytical and confident working with data. You can turn complex information into clear, meaningful insight and communicate it in a way that resonates with different audiences. You enjoy collaborating with others and take pride in delivering high‑quality work.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in data management and data analysis, knowledge of data and performance systems, and confidence in working with and drawing conclusions from data.
  • An understanding of police or community safety data.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, persuasion and negotiation skills to build relationships, and influence the stakeholder community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent ICT skills including use of Microsoft applications and specialist systems, including intermediate/advanced Excel and Power BI skills.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflicting and changing demands, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Authoritative knowledge of relevant systems, policies, regulations, professional guidelines, legislation, and an understanding of emerging developments within the service and specialist areas.
  • Proven initiative and judgement to research, identify, and resolve problems.

It’s a bonus if you have experience working in the public sector or familiarity with specialist BI tools. If you’re ready to use your analytical strengths to drive meaningful change, we’d love to hear from you.
