IT Business Partner

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

We’re looking for an experienced and forward‑thinking IT Business Partner to play a critical role in shaping how technology enables better outcomes for our residents and services.

Working closely with senior leaders, Members, and strategic partners, you’ll act as a trusted adviser—helping align ICT capabilities with organisational priorities, driving transformation, and ensuring value for money across the Council.

This is a high‑impact, visible role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, strategy, and service improvement, and who brings strong commercial insight alongside excellent relationship‑building skills.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As an IT Business Partner, you’ll be the strategic bridge between IT and the wider organisation—ensuring technology solutions are clearly aligned to service needs and long‑term objectives.

You’ll work collaboratively with directorates and Service Improvement colleagues to support service reviews, business planning, and the delivery of major transformation activity, including the Better Buckinghamshire Programme.

You’ll provide expert advice across the full range of IT services, helping shape service offerings, influence investment decisions, and ensure technology delivers measurable value. You’ll also stay close to market and sector trends, identifying opportunities to improve services, adopt best practice, and explore income‑generating options where appropriate.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Acting as the strategic ICT point of contact for assigned services and partners
  • Shaping and influencing business cases, service reviews, and ICT service development
  • Building and managing strong senior stakeholder relationships
  • Advising on commercial, procurement, and market considerations

This role offers genuine scope to influence decision‑making and drive meaningful, organisation‑wide change through the effective use of technology.

About you

You’ll be a confident, credible professional with experience working at the interface between IT and the business. You’re comfortable operating in complex environments, engaging senior stakeholders, and translating business priorities into practical, value‑driven technology solutions.

You’ll bring strong commercial awareness, excellent relationship‑management skills, and the ability to influence and negotiate at pace. Your approach is collaborative and solutions‑focused, grounded in a clear understanding of how IT enables service delivery and organisational outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience in strategic account management, business analysis, and delivering complex change
  • Demonstrates strong commercial thinking and market awareness, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Builds credibility quickly and works in line with our values of being Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy

A degree or equivalent professional experience is essential, alongside a commitment to ongoing development. You’ll also need a flexible approach to work and the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
