About the role
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Manage the front end operation of the taxi licensing service, meeting all organisational / operational requirements to provide an excellent taxi licensing service.
- Ensure safeguarding protocols are consistently followed, with appropriate recording and escalation of any concerns. Uniquely, the taxi licensing service manages its customer-facing enquiries within the team (rather than through a central call-handling function) so that licence holders and the public receive specialist technical advice direct from the service; the postholder will be required to work in close proximity to the technical team to enable this and to maintain a safe, consistent approach.
- Make day to day decisions in response to operational issues, accommodating changes in priorities. Ensure that, as far as possible, customer queries and issues are resolved at the first point of contact.
- Manage and support the needs of the team including conducting performance and development reviews to the required standards and timescales for all staff. Support recruitment, induction development and all training needs, manage employee relations matters effectively and complete all related HR processes.
- Collaborate with the taxi licensing management team to forward plan operational resources according to demand, identify and deliver process improvements, and support a fully online, helpful service for customers.
- Take the initiative to suggest improvements to the service and devise more efficient ways of working where appropriate, including through system improvement and digital technology.
Fixed
As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location (The Gateway Office, Aylesbury is the primary work location), which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there. However, there is flexibility for the post holder to work from home a few days a week, once full training has completed.
About you
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a customer-facing role, ideally in a regulatory environment (or similar). The taxi licensing application process is entirely digital, therefore you will need to have strong IT skills. Our work in taxi licensing involves carrying out important checks to ensure public safety, so you will need to have a keen eye for details and be someone who can support others to achieve a high level of accuracy and ensure that all procedures are followed.
Our procedures are continuously improving, so we are looking for a candidate who takes the initiative to analyse performance data, solve problems and make service improvements where needed. You will be a strong team player who possesses good communication skills and is able to work with others to deliver positive outcomes.
The service is busy and demanding and you will require excellent planning, time management, and organisational skills, enabling you to manage a complex workload, prioritising and setting deadlines, and react to changing demands on a daily basis.
