Temporary Accommodation Asset Officer
Location: Aylesbury
Overview
A practical starting point for a career in housing or property
This role works well as a starting point for a career in housing or property. You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you do need curiosity, good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
It is well suited to graduates in public policy, property, real estate, surveying or similar disciplines, or to someone with housing services knowledge who wants to move into a more asset- or property-focused role.
You’ll gain hands-on experience across real buildings, live contracts and day-to-day operational decision-making building a strong foundation for future roles in asset management, surveying, housing services or the wider public sector.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
About the role
As Temporary Accommodation Asset Officer, you will:
- Act as the key link between housing staff and contractors, ensuring maintenance works are clearly instructed, delivered to standard and completed on time.
- Raise and manage repair orders using schedules of rates, tracking costs and progress against service level agreements.
- Inspect works on site, carrying out spot checks and mandatory inspections for higher value works.
- Monitor performance, quality, budgets and compliance across Temporary Accommodation properties.
- Investigate and respond to enquiries and complaints, working collaboratively with colleagues and contractors.
- Support safe, compliant and well-maintained homes for residents.
- Contribute to service improvements and projects, helping shape better systems and ways of working.
This role monitors expenditure and offers excellent exposure to housing operations, property maintenance, contractor management and public sector governance.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We’re looking for a proactive and solution-focused individual with a strong interest in housing or property management and a passion for delivering excellent services.
You might be:
- Starting out in your career and looking for a role with real responsibility and development potential
- A graduate wanting practical experience to complement academic learning
- Working in housing or a related service and keen to move towards property or asset-focused work
What matters most is a thoughtful, organised approach and an interest in how housing, property and public services work in practice.
You’ll be an effective communicator, confident working with contractors and colleagues and able to build strong relationships and drive high standards. With excellent organisational skills, you’ll be able to manage a busy workload, prioritise effectively, and respond to issues in a timely and professional manner.
Above all, you’ll be motivated by making a difference ensuring residents have safe, well-maintained accommodation and receive a high-quality service they can rely on.
