Education Destination Tracking Officer

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about helping young people to move into education, employment or training? Join our CCIS Team, part of the wider Community Youth Team, as an Education Destinations Tracking Officer and play a key role in supporting young people across Buckinghamshire to take their next steps.

In this role you will contact young people to understand their current situation and provide information. You will help those who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) by directing them to suitable opportunities and support services.

If you’re organised, self-motivated and a confident communicator who wants to make a positive impact on young people’s futures, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

This is a permanent position which may be undertaken as a full-time or part-time role.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connected– only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and inspiring people to join us on our journey. You will be entitled to a range of different benefits to make sure you are happy both at work and at home.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Buckinghamshire Council’s support for young people. The Council has a statutory responsibility to track young people’s activity after Year 11 and to encourage them to stay in education, training or employment.

In this role you will:

  • Contact young people, primarily by telephone, to gather information about their current activity.
  • Answer questions and provide clear information about their options
  • Identify young people who are NEET
  • Use your knowledge of post-16 pathways and local services to guide them to appropriate opportunities and support

Helping young people remain in education or employment is a key priority, as it improves their skills, confidence, and prospects.

About you

You will be someone who cares about improving outcomes for young people and can build rapport to gain their trust.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Communicates clearly and confidently by phone, in writing, and in person.
  • Can provide accurate information in spoken and written English.
  • Has relevant experience or knowledge of supporting young people or signposting to services.
  • Works independently and follows processes with minimal supervision
  • Can plan and manage their workload effectively to meet deadlines
  • Understands post-16 education and employment options in Buckinghamshire, including Raising the Participation Age requirements.
  • Has experience using databases and keeping accurate records
  •  Is confident using IT systems, including Microsoft Office
  • Holds GCSE English (or equivalent).
  • Shares our values—Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy.

If you are passionate about helping young people achieve their potential, we would love to hear from you.

About the Business Unit

Ensuring that children and young people in Buckinghamshire reach their potential is a primary focus within our Education service. It’s essential that we provide inclusive and life-long learning opportunities for all of our young people - so we look to raise standards, attainment and aspirations in a number of ways.

Our key priorities include: improving the quality and timeliness of Education, Health and Care Plans and the support families of children with SEND receive; reducing the number of exclusions both permanent and fixed term; and providing the children of Buckinghamshire with the highest quality education possible.

We aim to provide the right support, at the right time for families requiring non-statutory intervention, and provide sufficient, high quality early years and school places for children in Buckinghamshire. Despite Buckinghamshire having a higher percentage of good or outstanding Early Years providers and schools than national averages, we are not complacent.

We are keen to strengthen the services we deliver to provide the children of Buckinghamshire the highest quality education possible.
