We’re looking for a Pensions Officer to join our team, supporting the administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your expertise in a structured, supportive environment with clear progression from entry-level through to advanced technical responsibilities.
Whether you’re starting out or already experienced in pensions administration, you’ll play a key role in delivering an efficient, accurate, and high-quality service to our members and stakeholders.
Salary: £29,444 - £36,502 per annum pro rata.
Hours: 29.60 hours per week

About the role
• Administering all aspects of LGPS benefits, including retirements, leavers, transfers, and pension estimates
• Maintaining accurate member records and liaising with employers to resolve discrepancies
• Calculating pension benefits, from basic to complex cases depending on your grade
• Responding to enquiries from scheme members, employers, and financial advisors
• Supporting (and at higher levels, leading) project work and continuous improvement
initiatives
• Keeping up to date with LGPS regulations, guidance, and best practice
senior levels
At higher grades, you’ll take ownership of complex cases, support quality assurance processes, and
help shape the development of colleagues and service improvements
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is organised, accurate, and passionate about delivering excellent service. You’ll thrive in a collaborative team and be motivated to develop professionally.
You will bring:
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
• Experience working in a service-driven, target-focused environment
• Confidence using Microsoft applications and specialist systems (e.g. pensions software such as Altair is a plus)
Depending on the level you join us at, you may also have:
• Experience in LGPS or pensions administration
• Knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, and procedures
• Experience handling complex calculations or technical queries
• A relevant qualification (or working towards one)

About the Service Area
Corporate Finance sets the overall financial strategy for the Council as well as the financial, risk and control assurance framework. The service is responsible for co-ordinating the Medium-Term Financial Plan, as well overseeing essential services, from statutory financial reporting and pensions administration to strategic procurement and supplier relationship management, as well as financial support for major projects.
Our expert staff work collaboratively to set a balanced budget and review the Council’s financial framework and procedures and to establish an appropriate assurance framework. Now is an exciting time to join Corporate Finance as we continue to play a key role in supporting all front-line services, ensuring that value for money is achieved and financial activities are directed towards the Council’s priorities.
