Float Registrar

Location: High Wycombe

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time vacancy as a Float Registrar based in our High Wycombe Registration Office although the role will require working in all offices around the county.  These include Aylesbury, Buckingham and Beaconsfield as well as High Wycombe.

The role includes full registration duties including registering births, death, stillbirths, marriages and civil partnerships as well as attending citizenship ceremonies currently held at The Gateway offices.  You will be trained fully which can take up a year and be expected to cover all offices when required.  Therefore you will need to be able to drive a car as you may be transporting documents between offices too.

The working hours are Monday to Friday for 37 hours per week.  There may also be optional overtime at weekends during the year and in particular over the summer season as we are usually very busy with ceremonies.

This position is being advertised for Buckinghamshire Council internal and agency employees only.

About us

The Buckinghamshire Registration Service registers all life events that occur in Buckinghamshire including births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships. We have two main offices, one in the Council’s Walton Street Offices in Aylesbury and the other in Beaconsfield Old Town. We also have smaller outstations across the County.  It is a busy environment and we pride ourselves on providing outstanding service at key moments in our customers lives.  We are a friendly and supportive team and work hard to provide a high quality of registrations and ceremonies.

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

The role will involve all aspects of registration including registering births and deaths, undertaking legal preliminaries for marriage and civil partnership and attending ceremonies. You will also be trained to facilitate private Citizenship Ceremonies too. You will meet many different people from all walks of life whilst carrying out your duties – no two days are the same.

The days are varied with registering new-born babies in the morning perhaps followed by a wedding after lunch! Many weddings are held in outside venues such as stately homes, hotels, barns and National Trust properties.

Fixed

As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in registration office locations where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same locations across the county as the rest of your teams, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.
