Exclusions & Reintegration Officer

Overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Exclusion & Reintegration Officer to contribute to the work of the Exclusions and Reintegration Team.
The Exclusions and Reintegration Team deliver on the Local Authorities responsibility towards excluded pupils and help promote a reduction in the numbers of exclusions from school through targeted early intervention and the promotion of alternative strategies.
Supporting schools across Buckinghamshire, this role is integral to reducing the length of time vulnerable children are without an educational placement. The successful post holder will also be responsible for supporting children placed in alternative provision.

About the role
The main responsibilities of the role are:
- To have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge & understanding of the DfE Guidance for Exclusions and Alternative Provision to provide advice and guidance to schools, governing bodies, professional agencies, and parents in relation to issues concerning exclusions from school.
- To attend and represent the Local Authority in giving authoritative specialist advice at Governing Board Exclusion Hearings and Independent Review Panels in respect of all permanent exclusions from school and longer suspensions, as they occur.
- To provide specialist support and advice to schools, parents, and professional agencies in reducing exclusions and promoting the prompt reintegration of children who are without an educational placement.
- To develop effective joint and multi-agency working with a range of public service agencies to promote the educational inclusion of vulnerable children.
- To present casework reports to the Local Authority’s Fair Access Boards.
- To create, develop and deliver training on exclusions from school-to-school governors, staff and other professional agencies.
- To gather, analyse and evaluate data on exclusions from school and reintegration processes.
- To participate in the Council’s performance management processes, supervision, to continually reflect upon practice and identify and implement personal and professional development

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary
About you
The successful candidate will:
- Hold DipSW, CSS or equivalent or Teaching Qualification or strong combination of higher level academic and practical qualifications
- Possess the ability to use initiative and problem-solving skills in complex and unusual cases
- Have extensive knowledge of education systems and practice
- Be able to demonstrate thorough and up-to-date knowledge of legislation relating to exclusions from school and alternative provisio
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be well organised with excellent planning and organisational skills
- ·Have access to a private vehicle for business travel
