About us

The Buckinghamshire Family Information Service is the first point of contact for families looking for information, advice, and support. As part of Buckinghamshire Council's Children's Services, we help parents, carers, children, and young people find the services they need, from childcare and early years provision to family support, early help, SEND services, family hubs, and local activities.

We manage a range of digital information services, including the Family Information Service website, directories, and SEND Local Offer, ensuring families and professionals can easily access accurate and up-to-date information.

Our team is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families, using digital innovation, partnership working, and user engagement to make information accessible, useful, and easy to find.

About the role

As an Early Help Digital Officer, you will play a key role in supporting Buckinghamshire Council's statutory duty to provide information, advice and guidance to children, young people, families, prospective parents, and professionals. Working within the Buckinghamshire Family Information Service, Partnerships and Information Team, you will help ensure that online information across Family Hubs, Early Help, Bucks SEND Local Offer and related services is accurate, accessible, user-focused, and easy to understand.

The role offers a varied mix of digital content management, communications, stakeholder engagement, and service improvement. You will work closely with colleagues across Children's Services and partner organisations to develop and maintain digital content that

meets customer needs, promotes services, and improves the user experience. You will also use analytics, customer feedback, and digital best practice to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and help shape how residents access information and support online.

As part of a career-linked grade structure, the role also offers opportunities for development and progression. At the higher level, you may take on greater responsibility for specialist digital projects, accessibility improvements, content strategy, user-centred design, and service improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

· Create, edit, and publish content using content management systems such as Wagtail and Umbraco.

· Review and improve existing website content to ensure it remains accurate, accessible and user focused.

· Support online communications campaigns and social media activity.

· Produce digital communications materials including webpages, articles, graphics, videos, and guidance materials.

· Use analytics tools including GA4 and Siteimprove to monitor performance and identify improvements.

· Support website enhancement projects and customer journey improvements.

· Work collaboratively with internal teams, practitioners, community organisations, and external partners.

· Translate complex service information into clear and accessible content for residents.

· Contribute to digital service improvement initiatives and user research activities.

· Support the promotion and development of Early Help, Family Hubs, Bucks SEND Local Offer, Childcare and Early Years services.

About you

We are looking for a proactive, organised and customer-focused individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality digital content and improving access to services for local communities. You will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, can manage competing priorities effectively and is committed to producing accessible, user-centred information that meets the needs of diverse audiences.

You will have experience within a digital content, communications, customer engagement, or related environment, with a strong understanding of content design principles, accessibility standards, and digital best practice. You should be confident using content management systems and digital reporting tools, and be able to analyse information, interpret user feedback and make recommendations for improvement.

Strong communication skills are essential, particularly the ability to translate complex information into plain English and build positive working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders. You will also demonstrate excellent organisational skills, sound judgement, initiative, and a commitment to delivering high standards of customer service.

Applicants should be educated to NVQ Level 4, degree level or equivalent experience and have substantial experience within a digital content, communications, or engagement role. Knowledge of Children's Services, Early Help, Family Hubs, SEND, accessibility requirements and public sector digital standards would be advantageous.

About the Business Unit

Buckinghamshire is a successful, growing place with fantastic natural assets, a highly productive economy and many resourceful and thriving communities. However, we are far from complacent and our new and ambitious unitary authority is well placed to tackle the challenges associated with growth, an aging population, climate change and inequalities in both opportunities and outcomes – particularly for our children and young people.

Children’s Services is on an improvement journey and as our very recent Ofsted report shows, we have continued to improve despite the pressures of the pandemic and have built solid foundations for future success. Relationships with partners are strong and our collective response to the pandemic has strengthened and deepened our work together.

We have a big, ambitious agenda for Buckinghamshire, and our teams work collaboratively and at pace to make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people across the county.

We are looking for talented and driven individuals to help us achieve the best outcomes for our children, young people and families in Buckinghamshire. Our key priorities include continuing to protect vulnerable children and young people from harm, whilst sustaining an environment where social work practice can thrive. Through our vital work with our partners, including The Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Childrens Partnership, we continue to improve our collective response to children and young people who have been exposed to domestic abuse, exploitation, substance misuse and mental health issues.

No matter what role you take on in our Children’s services, you will be part of a team who is dedicated to supporting children and their families to achieve their full potential.

We recognise and reward you
