We're looking for a Business Support Specialist to join our Corporate Business Support team. In this varied and rewarding role, you'll provide high-quality administrative and business support services that help ensure customers, residents, and colleagues receive an efficient and professional service. Working across a range of service areas, you'll play a key part in keeping operations running smoothly while supporting continuous improvement and excellent customer outcomes.
About us
Our Corporate Business Support Service has over 300 staff delivering a wide variety of Business Support services across Buckinghamshire Council. We have been operating since April 2012 and we are looking for Individuals with the ability to demonstrate the Buckinghamshire Council’s values.
We aim to provide front line services with an efficient, value for money business process administration and project support service. We pride ourselves on being resilient and adaptable to change, whilst understanding the processes, policies and values held by the council.
We pride ourselves as highly experienced in working across a range of services provided in the council. The strength of the team is its knowledge of the key support services required to ensure a smooth running of services being provided by the different Business Units.
About the role
As a Business Support Specialist, you'll be part of a busy and collaborative team that provides administrative and transactional support across the organisation. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of service delivery, supporting a diverse range of customers and stakeholders while helping to ensure services operate efficiently and effectively.
The role offers plenty of variety, combining customer service, administration, data management, financial processing, meeting support, and business coordination. You'll have the opportunity to use your initiative, provide specialist advice and support, identify opportunities to improve processes, and contribute to projects that help enhance services and customer experience. You'll also work closely with colleagues across different teams, building strong working relationships and acting as a trusted source of business support expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing high-quality administrative and business support to internal and external customers.
- Acting as a first point of contact and ensuring excellent customer service standards are maintained.
- Managing and processing correspondence, applications, documents, and records accurately and efficiently.
- Supporting senior colleagues through diary management, meeting coordination, and administrative assistance.
- Preparing reports, presentations, spreadsheets, and other business documents.
- Attending meetings, taking minutes, and distributing documentation where required.
- Maintaining databases and ensuring information is accurate, up to date, and compliant.
- Supporting financial processes, including purchase orders, invoices, payments, and other transactions.
- Analysing and interpreting data to identify trends and support informed decision-making.
- Contributing to service improvement initiatives and supporting the implementation of new processes.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, customers, partner organisations, and stakeholders.
- Supporting project activity and helping deliver agreed outcomes within timescales and budgets.

About you
We're looking for someone who is highly organised, customer-focused, and able to balance competing priorities with confidence. You'll be a proactive team player who enjoys solving problems, finding practical solutions, and delivering a consistently high standard of work. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll be working with a wide range of colleagues, customers, and stakeholders and will often be responsible for handling sensitive or important information professionally and confidentially.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring previous administrative or business support experience within a complex organisation, along with excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills. You'll be comfortable working with data, financial processes, and multiple digital systems, and you'll be confident using Microsoft Office applications to produce professional documentation and reports. An interest in improving processes and using technology, including AI and automation, to enhance services will also be valuable.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in a business support, administrative, or customer-focused role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience maintaining databases and managing information accurately.
- Good financial administration or budget processing experience.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and other business systems.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and building positive working relationships.
- Knowledge of data protection requirements and experience handling confidential information.
- Minute-taking experience.
- An awareness of AI and automation and how technology can improve services and customer experience.
- Education to A-Level, HNC standard, or equivalent qualification and/or relevant experience.
