Overview
Are you a highly organised administrator with excellent attention to detail and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service?
We're looking for a Pensions Payroll Assistant to join our dedicated Pensions Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring pensioner payroll records are accurately maintained and pension payments are processed correctly and on time.
Working closely with the Pensions Payroll Officer and Senior Pensions Payroll Officer, you will support the administration of pensioner payroll records, respond to pensioner enquiries, and help ensure compliance with payroll and HMRC requirements.

About the role
As a Pensions Payroll Assistant, you will:
- Create and maintain pensioner payroll records on the pensions administration system.
- Process new pension payroll records arising from retirements and deaths.
- Process pension payment adjustments and modifications.
- Update tax codes and pay and tax information from P45s.
- Maintain pensioner records, including personal details, addresses and bank account information.
- Respond to pensioner enquiries, providing clear and timely responses.
- Support the issue of life certificates and pensioner verification processes.
- Assist with weekly immediate payment runs.
- Help maintain accurate records and support compliance with HMRC reporting requirements.
- Investigate returned mail and undertake appropriate tracing activity where required.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has relevant administrative experience gained through training and practical workplace experience.
- Has excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Has strong ICT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office applications and databases.
- Can prioritise workloads and work effectively to deadlines.
- Enjoys working as part of a team and delivering excellent customer service.
- Is educated to GCSE standard or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent
- Experience within pensions, payroll or local government administration would be advantageous but is not essential.
