Best Start in Life Family Hub Worker

Location: Buckinghamshire County Wide

Overview

Could you be the welcoming face of Buckinghamshire’s Best Start in Life Family Hub offer? Are you a warm, responsive and solution‑focused professional with a passion for supporting children and families? Could you help families feel confident accessing the support they need?

In July 2025, the Government launched its strategy, Giving Every Child the Best Start in Life, with the ambition that 75% of five‑year‑olds in England will achieve a good level of development by 2028. Supporting families with parenting and the HLE is central to this ambition to meet this target, and a key part of the vision for integrated family services - bringing together health, education, early years, and wider services to give families a cohesive offer of support through Best Start Family Hub’s (BSFH).

We are looking for motivated Family Hub Workers to join our Family Hub service, supporting families across Buckinghamshire and helping to deliver positive outcomes for children, young people and their families in line with the Best Start in Life aims and ambition.

We have x3 full time positions available, on an 18 month fixed term/secondment basis.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As a Best Start in Life Family Hub Worker, you will play an important role in helping to deliver the ambition that 75% of five‑year‑olds in England will achieve a good level of development by 2028 locally. Roles are available countywide and, depending on locality, you will work across several family centres.

This is a varied, rewarding and people-focused role where no two days are the same. As part of a supportive and collaborative team, you'll work directly with children, young people and families, delivering a range of universal and targeted services designed to support learning, development and wellbeing. You'll be a friendly and welcoming presence within our Family Hubs, helping families feel supported, listened to and connected to the services available to them.

You'll facilitate engaging sessions and activities, support the delivery of family programmes and work closely with colleagues and partner organisations to ensure families receive the right support for their individual needs. A key focus of the role is helping improve outcomes for young children through the Best Start in Life programme, including supporting families to create positive learning experiences at home and encouraging early development.

Whether you're welcoming visitors into a Family Hub, leading a group activity, signposting families to additional support, or collaborating with local professionals, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day

You will:

  • Plan, deliver and support universal sessions and targeted groups including evening and weekend sessions.
  • Provide parenting and the Home Learning Environment support.
  • Provide a welcoming first point of contact for families and professionals.
  • Offer information, advice and signposting.
  • Support effective transitions between services.
  • Work with partner agencies in Buckinghamshire’s Family Hub Network to provide a holistic response.

Please refer to the job description for full details.

We're looking for a warm, approachable and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children, young people and families. You'll be someone who enjoys working with people, builds positive relationships naturally, and is committed to helping families overcome challenges and access opportunities that support their wellbeing and development.
