Public Health Programme Officer

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic programme officer to support the development, delivery, and monitoring of a range of innovative, community-based health improvement projects. This role will sit within the healthy lifestyles team where key areas of focus are healthy weight, physical activity, food insecurity and oral health (as required the role may support wider subject areas).

This is a fixed term/secondment until 30th June 2027

About us

Buckinghamshire is an exciting place to work and a beautiful place to live. It has a population of more than 500,000 and although generally healthy and wealthy, there are significant public health challenges and inequalities across the county.

There is excellent partnership working across Buckinghamshire with a strong network between the local authority, NHS, community and charitable organisations. The Council is now a unitary authority which enhances our ability to address the broader determinants of health.

The Public Health department is based in Buckinghamshire Council offices in Aylesbury but with sites across the county and very effective remote working in place.

About the role

You will support the efficient development, delivery and monitoring of health and wellbeing programmes and community-based projects across the public health team. You will ensure effective co-ordination and collaboration by working across the Public Health team, and in partnership with other teams within the Council and a wide range of external organisations including community groups and local businesses.

This role provides the opportunity to contribute to projects which will have a real impact on health improvement and reducing inequalities in health.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

With substantial experience of collaborative working in a health-related post you will be able to quickly build positive working relationships with partners and community representatives.  Your experience of engaging with communities will help inform the development of community-based projects.

You’ll have proven ability to prioritise and co-ordinate workloads, monitor and evaluate work, and you will take a pro-active approach to driving progress to ensure that deadlines are achieved.

You’ll need exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.

Please see the job summary attached for full details.
