People Partner Advisor

Location: Aylesbury

Overview

Are you passionate about helping people thrive at work and making a real difference to employee experiences? Do you enjoy building strong relationships, solving problems and providing trusted advice, that helps managers and teams succeed?

We're looking for a People Partner Advisor to join our People Partnering team in HR & OD. In this varied and rewarding role, you'll work closely with managers and stakeholders in the Communities Directorate, providing practical people advice, supporting employee relations matters and helping to create a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

About the role

As a People Partner Advisor, you'll play an important role in supporting managers with a wide range of employee relations matters, helping them confidently navigate people challenges while ensuring policies, procedures and employment legislation are applied consistently and fairly. Working alongside our Strategic People Partners and wider HR team, you'll provide professional, pragmatic advice that helps deliver great outcomes for both employees and the organisation.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to make a visible impact. No two days are the same. You could be advising on an employee relations case, analysing data to identify trends, supporting organisational change initiatives, or helping managers develop their people management skills. You'll also contribute to projects and continuous improvement activities, playing a key part in shaping positive workplace experiences and driving effective people practices.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert advice and guidance on employee relations matters and HR policies.
  • Managing employee relations cases from initial consultation through to resolution.
  • Using data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Supporting projects, change programmes and service improvements across HR and the wider organisation. For a full overview of responsibilities and duties, please refer to the Job Description.

Any-Desk:

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need a desk, screen a keyboard to get your job done. You’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

About you

We're looking for a proactive, people-focused HR professional who enjoys building relationships and finding practical solutions to complex situations. You'll be confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, able to explain HR policies and processes clearly and comfortable balancing organisational needs with a positive employee experience. You will bring sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and professional when managing sensitive matters.

To be successful in this role, you'll have experience working in a HR or employee relations environment, ideally within a large and complex organisation. You'll have a good understanding of employment law and HR best practice, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver excellent customer service. Strong organisational skills, confidence using HR systems and Microsoft applications and the ability to use data to support decision-making will also be important.

You'll be someone who is curious, collaborative and keen to continuously develop your knowledge and skills. Whether you're already professionally qualified or working towards a relevant HR qualification, you'll bring the enthusiasm and commitment needed to help us deliver an outstanding people service. Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), you'll be excited by the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change and support colleagues across the organisation to be at their best.
