Waste Services Support Officer
Location: High Wycombe
Overview
Are you someone who enjoys solving problems, building relationships and making a real difference for residents?
We're looking for a proactive and organised Waste Services Support Officer to join our Southern Waste Team. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines customer service, case management, complaint resolution, data analysis and business support.
No two days are the same. One day you could be investigating a complex resident enquiry, the next analysing service trends, supporting councillor casework or working with contractors and colleagues to improve how services are delivered. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and take pride in delivering excellent customer outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
At Buckinghamshire Council, we're passionate about delivering services that matter to our communities. Our Waste Service plays a vital role in supporting residents across the county, helping to keep Buckinghamshire clean, safe and sustainable.
You'll be joining a supportive and collaborative team that is committed to providing an excellent customer experience while continuously improving the services we deliver. We work closely with residents, councillors, contractors and partners to resolve issues, identify improvements and deliver positive outcomes.
Everything we do is guided by our values of being Proud, Ambitious, Collaborative and Trustworthy, and we're looking for someone who shares that commitment.
About the role
As a Waste Services Support Officer, you'll be at the heart of our service, providing essential support to residents, councillors, contractors and colleagues. You'll take ownership of a wide range of enquiries, service requests and complaints, ensuring they are resolved efficiently and to a high standard.
The role offers plenty of variety, combining customer service, administration, data analysis and problem-solving. You'll investigate service issues, monitor performance information, identify trends and support continuous service improvements. Working closely with operational teams and external partners, you'll help ensure our waste services remain responsive, efficient and focused on delivering the best possible experience for residents.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, thrives in a busy environment and wants to play a key role in delivering services that make a visible difference across Buckinghamshire.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We're looking for a confident communicator who enjoys helping people and finding solutions.
You will have experience working in a customer-focused or administrative environment and be comfortable managing a varied workload, often with competing priorities. You will be able to investigate issues thoroughly, respond professionally to enquiries and complaints, and build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You'll also bring:
- Excellent customer service skills and a genuine desire to help people.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Confidence in handling challenging conversations and resolving complaints.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse information and identify trends
- Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications and business systems.
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, councillors, contractors and customers.
Experience within waste services, local government or performance reporting would be beneficial, but what's most important is your enthusiasm, resilience and commitment to delivering a great service.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills within a high-profile front-line service and to play a key role in delivering outcomes that directly impact residents across Buckinghamshire.
In return, you'll join a welcoming team, have opportunities to develop your career and be part of an organisation that values innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
