Senior Business Intelligence Analyst
Location: Aylesbury
Overview
Do you enjoy turning complex data into meaningful insights that drive real change? Are you passionate about helping organisations make smarter, evidence-based decisions?
We're looking for a talented Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to join our team and play a key role in shaping services through data, analysis and insight. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you'll help transform information into actionable intelligence that supports better outcomes for our communities, customers and services.
This is an 18 month Fixed Term contract, starting in January 2027
About us
Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.
About the role
This role sits within the team supporting Children’s Services. You’ll help the team deliver statutory returns, operational reporting and performance dashboards while responding to evolving requirements arising from reforms, including Families First for Partnerships, Best Start in Life and SEND Reforms.
As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, you'll be at the heart of delivering high-quality analysis and insight that supports strategic decision-making across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, using data from multiple sources to identify trends, uncover opportunities and help influence service improvements.
No two days are the same. One day you could be carrying out in-depth analysis to support senior leaders with key decisions and the next you could be designing insightful performance reports, developing innovative data solutions or collaborating with service teams to better understand their challenges. You'll work closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation, helping them make sense of complex information and using your expertise to recommend practical, evidence-based solutions.
This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact through data-driven improvements, while continuing to develop your own specialist knowledge and analytical expertise.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Producing detailed analysis, reports and insights to support organisational decision-making.
- Identifying trends, issues and opportunities within data to help drive service improvement.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders and translating complex information into meaningful recommendations.
- Supporting projects and improvement initiatives through data analysis, reporting and performance monitoring.
For a full list of duties and responsibilities, please refer to the job description.
Any-Desk:
As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need a desk, screen a keyboard to get your job done. You’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.
About you
We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, analytical and passionate about using data to make a difference. You'll enjoy investigating problems, identifying patterns and presenting your findings in a way that is clear and engaging for a wide range of audiences.
You'll be a confident communicator who can build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels and explain technical concepts in a way that non-specialists can easily understand. Organised and proactive, you'll be comfortable managing competing priorities and working independently while contributing positively as part of a collaborative team.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring significant experience in data analysis and business intelligence, alongside strong technical skills and excellent attention to detail. You'll have experience working with data and performance systems, advanced Excel skills and the ability to produce meaningful analysis that drives organisational improvement. You will also have experience of developing and delivering automated reporting in Power BI. Knowledge of the specialist systems used within the service and for reporting (e.g. System C’s LCS, Business Objects, SQL, MRI ONE) would be an advantage.
Most importantly, you'll share our values and be committed to continuously improving services, finding solutions and delivering high-quality work that makes a real impact.
For full details of the essential and desirable criteria, please refer to the job description.
