Overview
We are currently seeking expressions of interest for the role of Presiding Officer and Poll Clerk for the Police and Crime Commissioner Elections on 2 May 2024. Please see further information about the roles below. Counting roles for the election are now full.
You can also get involved in Buckinghamshire elections, as and when they occur. For each election, the Returning Officer appoints polling and counting staff as well as other roles such as clerks to open postal votes. We are seeking individuals to register their interest in these roles, so we can contact you for support when elections are called.

About us
Available positions may include:
Polling staff
The polling staff are responsible for the conduct of the ballot in each polling station, ensuring that the proper voting procedure is followed. On election day polling staff are required to work from 6:30 am until after 10 pm without leaving the polling station. They are also required to attend a training session for national elections.
Counting staff
Counting staff are employed to count the votes at the time and place appointed by the Returning Officer. This usually takes place on the night of the election, and for Buckinghamshire-wide elections, will continue through to the early hours of the morning, or during the day following the election.
Postal vote staff
Staff are employed to open postal votes - this usually takes place during the daytime only, prior to the election.
Canvass staff
Each autumn, canvassers are employed by the Electoral Registration Officer to visit properties where the occupants have not returned their annual canvass form. This is to ensure that all eligible residents are registered and that those who are no longer eligible for inclusion on the register are removed.
Other information
Rates of pay are currently:
Presiding Officer £300, plus mileage & training (previous poll clerk experience desirable)
Poll Clerk £220, plus mileage & training
Count Assistant £15ph (daytime); £20ph (evening/Saturday); £25 (Sunday/Bank Holiday)
Postal Vote Opener £12ph
